Flashcards
Flashcard Strategies for Science
Build effective flashcard decks for definitions, equations, and processes
What It Is
Flashcards turn passive reading into active recall. For Edexcel Combined Science, they are ideal for memorising definitions, equations, practical methods, and key scientific facts. The StudyVault flashcard system includes 5 dedicated cards per lesson using Leitner spaced repetition.
How to Build Science Flashcards
- 1
Definitions — Front: “What is osmosis?” Back: “The diffusion of water molecules from a dilute solution to a concentrated solution through a partially permeable membrane.”
- 2
Equations — Front: “Equation for kinetic energy” Back: “\(KE = \frac{1}{2}mv^2\)”. Include the units.
- 3
Practical methods — Front: “How do you test for carbon dioxide?” Back: “Bubble the gas through limewater — it turns milky/cloudy.”
- 4
“Compare” cards — Front: “Difference between ionic and covalent bonding?” Back: “Ionic: electron transfer between metal and non-metal. Covalent: electron sharing between non-metals.”
