Who we are

StudyVault is a free GCSE revision website operated by Tom Shaun. This privacy policy explains how we handle information when you use our site.

Our approach to privacy

StudyVault is designed for GCSE students aged 14–16. We have deliberately built the site to collect as little data as possible. You do not need to create an account, provide an email address, or share any personal information to use StudyVault.

What data we collect

We keep data collection to an absolute minimum:

• Nothing personal. We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any other personal information.
• Anonymous analytics: We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand how many people visit the site. This collects anonymous, aggregated data (page views, country) with no personal identifiers, no cookies, and no tracking across sites.
• Optional school name: The last step of the subject picker invites you to share your school. This is entirely optional — you can skip it. If you do share it, we record only the school name and a timestamp so we can see which schools have students using StudyVault. No information about you as an individual is stored alongside it.

Data stored on your device

StudyVault stores your preferences and progress in your browser's local storage. This includes:

• Your chosen subjects and exam boards
• Which lessons you have visited
• Quiz and knowledge check scores
• Flashcard progress
• Accessibility settings (font size, colour overlays, dark mode)
• Foundation/Higher tier selections

This data is stored entirely on your device. It is never sent to our servers and we cannot access it. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, this data will be lost. The one exception is the optional school name described above, which is sent to our servers only if you choose to share it.

Cookies

StudyVault does not set any cookies. Our analytics service (Vercel Web Analytics) is cookieless and does not use any tracking identifiers.

Advertising

StudyVault does not currently serve any advertisements and does not use any advertising cookies or tracking.

School access

Some schools have their own StudyVault content, accessed via a shared school code. When a student enters a school code, we check it against our records to grant access. We do not store which code was entered, when it was entered, or who entered it. School codes are shared codes, not personal credentials.

Data we do NOT collect

To be clear, we do not collect:

• Names, email addresses, or any contact information
• Account registrations or passwords
• IP addresses (beyond what is standard in web server logs, which are automatically deleted)
• Location data, device identifiers, or fingerprinting data
• Browsing habits or behaviour profiles

Third-party services

• Vercel: Hosts the website and provides anonymous, cookieless analytics. Vercel's Privacy Policy
• Cloudflare R2: Stores and delivers media files (images, audio, video). No personal data is processed.
• Google Fonts: Provides typefaces used on the site. Google's Privacy Policy
• Amazon Web Services (Bedrock): When you use an optional AI study tool — “Simplify language”, “Explain it differently”, the lesson tutor, or AI feedback on a practice answer — the relevant lesson text (or your typed answer) is sent to be processed by a Claude model running on Amazon Web Services in London (eu-west-2), in the United Kingdom. This text is already part of the public lesson or is content you chose to submit; we do not attach any name, account, or identifying information to these requests, and it is not used to train models. The model is made by Anthropic, but it runs on AWS infrastructure in the UK and Anthropic has no access to it. If the London service is unavailable the tool stops working rather than sending your text somewhere else. AWS Privacy Notice

Children's privacy

StudyVault is designed for GCSE students aged 14–16 and is built with the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code) in mind. We have chosen not to collect personal data from any users. No account is required, no personal information is requested, and all progress data is stored locally on the student's own device.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you. Since we do not collect personal data, there is nothing to access, correct, or delete. If you have concerns, you can contact us at the address below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes.
