Spaced Repetition for Science

Space out your science revision so it sticks

What It Is

Spaced repetition means reviewing material at increasing intervals. For OCR Combined Science, with six papers across three disciplines, cramming is not an option. You need a structured plan that revisits each topic multiple times before the exam.

How to Build a Science Revision Schedule

  1. 1
List all topics — Biology Paper 1, Biology Paper 2, Chemistry Paper 1, etc. Each paper has its own set of topics.
  2. 2
Schedule first study — Start with the topics you find hardest. Assign each a first revision date.
  3. 3
Use the 1-3-7-14-28 pattern — Review each topic after 1 day, then 3 days, then 1 week, then 2 weeks, then 4 weeks.
  4. 4
Keep sessions short — 20–30 minutes per topic. Use retrieval practice at each review.
  5. 5
Interleave subjects — Mix biology, chemistry, and physics in one session rather than doing blocks of one subject.
